Archiving and Storage Service |
It’s "information everywhere"
Your audiotapes, videotapes and digital images are accumulating at an alarming—and unprecedented—rate. There’s no time or resources to manage it, and there’s more to deal with (and lose track of) every day! Tracking down tapes in different offices, in storage rooms, off-site archives, desks, closets is a job in itself. Digital media’s all over the place, too. WHO has WHAT is even tougher to figure out.
And don’t forget the clock is ticking…
Even properly stored videotapes deteriorate. Photographs and slides fade over time. The typical shelf life of a videotape is just 25 years. Technology changes, too (remember the Betamax?)
Transferring Your Tapes to DVD is NOT an Archiving Solution
Over the last few years many have transferred their videotapes to DVD. Even though DVDs are a convenient way to watch your videotapes, they are not considered an archival medium. DVDs are fragile, and as technology changes and new formats emerge, they will become obsolete. Reconverting them to another format will degrade the image.
